Congratulations on your bundle of love! This is such an important time in your life and it deserves to be documented! This guide will help you prepare for your Fresh 48 session and show you what to expect during your session. You are likely overwhelmed with all the to-dos before your little one arrives, but don’t worry – you’re not alone. I am here to you organize everything you need for your session.

Preparing the Room
Upon my arrival, I will prep your room for the session. What does this look like? I will draw back any shades or blinds to let in as much natural light as possible. All of the lights in the room will be turned off to avoid any wonky colors coming into the images. Any distracting elements that may appear in photos will be moved to the unused side of the room.(Bags, food trays, extra clothing, etc.) Lastly, I will wheel baby’s bassinet as close to the natural light as possible. Now it’s time to shoot!

Preparing baby
If you are feeling up to it, dress baby in a plain white or neutral colored onesie before I arrive. I suggest having no more than two outfits set out for baby; one neutral color and one of your choosing. Avoiding the use of too many props during your session and dressing baby in neutral colored clothing allows your baby to be the primary focus of your images.

Deciding what to wear
When deciding what to pack for baby, yourself, and the rest of the family, keep everyone’s comfort in mind. Fresh 48 sessions in your hospital room are supposed to be RELAXED in nature. If every single hair is not in place, it is OKAY. Our goal during these sessions is to capture these moments in their truest form.

Please don’t stress!
Give yourselves GRACE, The past 24-48 hours have likely been a whirlwind. If the room is not tidy, if older siblings are feeling antsy, if baby is a little fussy, it is OKAY. These are all factors that I take into consideration prior to your session. Every family is unique and every session will have it’s own quirks. this is what makes your images YOURS.
One of most parent’s primary concerns is baby’s feedings. I highly encourage breaks throughout the session, if needed, to feed baby. We want to keep baby happy so please do not hesitate to pause for a feed. In fact, if you would like for feedings to be captured, just ask!

Expecting visitors?
Please try to limit visitors or ask them to wait in the waiting room before your session begins. Too many visitors in the room can create distractions and take away from your session time. If baby’s older siblings are being photographed, consider having a grandparent or friend sit with them in the waiting room until it’s their turn to join in.

Stay in contact
I know that there are a great deal of things to consider when it’s time for baby to make their grand entrance! But it is important to let your photographer know when you are in labor. This will give them enough time to shuffle some things around for your upcoming session, if need be. I always suggest that you assign your partner, friend, or grandparent the task of informing your photographer and setting a session time
