Welcoming Baby Carter: A Heartfelt In-Home Newborn Session

With all of the changes that we’ve been making behind the scenes, starting the year off capturing memories for a friend was just the recharge my photographer heart needed. Breanna shared the news of her pregnancy with me last year. So I knew that capturing her newest bundle of love’s portraits needed to be effortless. And what’s more effortless than the studio being brought right to your front door?

As a Charleston newborn photographer, I’ve come to love the beauty and simplicity of in-home newborn sessions. They offer all the comfort of your own space with the same polished, studio-quality portraits. This is perfect for new parents who want timeless photos without the stress of leaving home!

Knowing that Breanna is an avid planner, I knew that an in-home newborn session would put her mind at ease. One of the major benefits of an in-home session is that it takes away a lot of the “guess work” on the parent’s end. There’s no need to stress about what to pack in baby’s diaper bag, how to keep older siblings occupied. You’re in your home. You know where everything is because you put it there. Older kiddos are more comfortable because they’re in their own space. Your portraits should showcase your families uniqueness. The quirks, the laughs, and the love that flows through every inch of your home.

The Purdie Family exemplified this to a tee! When I arrived at their home, I was greeted by two big grins and four curious eyes. Luca and Grayson welcomed me in and filled the air with questions!

“What’s in there?”
“What is that for?”
“Can I hold that?”
“Can I see?”

I looove when older sibling display curiosity! It shows me, as a photographer, that it will be easier to keep them engaged during the session!

Once everything was set up, we began the session with some family portraits. Contrary to my usual style of traditional posed newborn family portraits, we opted for a more relaxed, organic approach. We captured sibling giggles, baby snuggles, and the tender embrace of mom, dad, and their brand new bundle of love.

After family portraits, dad got the boys squared away. With snacks and the promise of a “surprise”, Matthew was able to persuade the boys to go down for a nap while we photographed baby Carter’s studio newborn photos.

Carter slept like a dream throughout this portion of the session! He allowed me to capture a variety of poses, including some swaddled portraits in props, resting in a bucket, as well as traditional studio newborn poses. Though he wasn’t the biggest fan of the traditional newborn poses, he did allow me to capture a few!

The Purdie Family’s session reminded me of just how stress-free an in-home newborn session can be.

Starting the year by photographing friends in the comfort of their home was everything my creative heart needed. It was the perfect reminder of why I love this work; documenting real, loving connections in the spaces that mean the most.

If you’re expecting and love the idea of a calm, comfortable in-home newborn session in Charleston SC, I’d love to help you capture your baby’s first days in a way that feels effortless and meaningful.
